Ericsson in Japan, Samsung in South Korea, Qualcomm, Intel, NVIDIA, Texas Instruments in the United States, MediaTek in Taiwan, HiSilicon Kirin in China, and Xiaomi Pinecone in difficult production.

In early November, vivo and Samsung announced this “pre-defined” chip: Exynos 980. In summary, in addition to the improvement of basic performance, it supports dual-mode 5G and is the first system-level chip to integrate 5G baseband. At the same time, this chip focuses on strengthening the capabilities of imaging and NPU, which makes people look forward to vivo even more New photos taken.
From the perspective of end-user needs, vivo has pre-positioned the customization needs of the supply chain, and cross-implemented technical breakthroughs to produce chips that are “naturally suited to consumers’ expectations”. He mentioned that the Exynos 980 has excellent performance in 5G and AI.
What can vivo bring to Exynos?
A Vivo product expert said at the press conference: Vivo invested more than 500 professional R&D engineers before and after, and carried out an all-round and whole-process joint R&D. Vivo took turns stationing and dispatching teams, and the R&D time was as long as 10 months. But it was 2 to 3 months earlier than expected.
In Exynos 980, there will be more “Chinese consumer features”. For example: the establishment of a framework for system resource integration scheduling, game performance testing standards, etc. This makes for a significant improvement in the overall performance of the Exynos 980.

There are actually many bright spots: From the perspective of hardware specifications, Exynos 980 has high-performance CPU, GPU, NPU, DSP, ISP, modem and other components to work together to achieve flagship artificial intelligence computing performance. For example, it uses the ARM Cortex-A77 architecture CPU for the first time. According to ARM official information, the A77 architecture has a 20% performance improvement compared to the A76. At the same time, the adopted GPU Mali-G76 ensures the easy running of high-definition games.
Vivo gave Samsung more user data and the opportunity to experiment. Is vivo imitating HiSilicon Kirin?

Huawei HiSilicon was established in 1991, and the road to independent research and development has been long. Today, Huawei has achieved glory. In 2007, when Apple launched the first-generation iPhone, it used Samsung’s customized ARM-based chips – replacing “self-research” with the original “customization”, which also provided more room for Apple’s subsequent “self-research”.

What are the odds of Samsung Orion?
