In Q4 2019, Apple regained the world’s No. 1, Huawei’s No. 3, and Xiaomi’s No. 4

Recently, the authoritative market research agency Counterpoint released the global smartphone market report for the fourth quarter of 2019. The report shows that Apple ranks first with an 18% market share, followed by Samsung, followed by Huawei, Xiaomi, and vivo.

The latest report from Counterpoint shows that in the fourth quarter of 2019, global smartphone shipments increased by 2% year-on-year to 401.1 million units. China fell 10% year-on-year, its eighth consecutive quarter of declines.

In terms of brands, Apple ranks first with an 18% market share. Despite the absence of 5G phones, sales of 4G iPhones remained strong, with shipments up 10% year over year. This is also the first time after two years that Apple has returned to the number one position in the global smartphone market.

In Q4 2019, Apple regained the world’s No. 1, Huawei’s No. 3, and Xiaomi’s No. 4

Huawei (including Honor) ranked third with a market share of 14%. While its shipments in China rose 12%, it failed to offset declines in other regions.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, Huawei’s global shipments fell by 6% year-on-year, which was also its first year-on-year decline since the fourth quarter of 2017.

Xiaomi’s market share is 8%, and although Xiaomi’s shipments in China fell 17% year-on-year, its global shipments increased 28% year-on-year as overseas expansion over the past few years made it less dependent on the domestic market.

With an 8% market share, vivo became the fifth largest brand in the fourth quarter of 2019. This is the first time since vivo surpassed OPPO in the second quarter of 2015.
